Tokutoku no Shimizu Spring Water

A famous haiku poet, Matsuo Basho, started living in Genju-an hut in April 1690. He lived leisurely, cooking his own meals with this spring water. The Genjuan-ki, his masterpiece among his prose with a poetic haiku flavor [mentions the spring and his plain kitchen in homage to the beauty and simplicity of the poet-priest Saigyo’s legendary hut and its nearby clear trickling water which inspired the name of this tokutoku no shimizu].
