Zeze Shrine

Zeze Shrine is said to be the creation of the Nara period. In the Middle Ages, reverence from various warlords is quite prominent and there are records that the Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Hideyoshi’s wife Kitanomandokoro, Tokugawa Ieyasu and others offered sacred treasures. In the 3rd year of the Meiji Era (1870), the front gate got dismantled, and rebuild as was the Zeze Castle during the Meiji restauration, and is now designated as an important cultural property. The main hall, the middle gate and the hall of worship stand towards Lake Biwa in the east front, and the roof-tiled gate Yakuimon’s massive structure can be seen.
