Kekaiji Temple

It is a Jodo Sect temple built in 1532 by Sainen, a monk, in the place where Fujiwara no Hidesato’s residence reportedly used to be. In the precinct, Tsukimi no Ishi Stone [a stone on which Hidesato sat to admire the moon], and Yanone Jizo are enshrined; both are related to Fujiwara no Hidesato famous for the extermination of the gigantic centipede in Mt. Mikami. Yanone Jizo is the statue of bodhisattva which was carved by Hidesato himself with the arrow that killed the gigantic centipede.
In front of the temple gate, there are also two gingko trees planted when the temple was founded. These gigantic gingko trees are more than 400 years old and were designated as natural monuments by the city.
