Awazu Shrine

The three deities enshrined in this shrine are Okuninushi no Mikoto, Tanaka Tsuneyo and Daidoji Tabatanosuke who developed Awazu. It is worshipped as soja of Zeze [where the deities of a region are grouped together].
Tsuneyo-shin descended with Kagero-shin to Awazu, and landed in a ricefield; therefore, this deity is called Tanaka Tsuneyo[, meaning Tsuneyo in Ricefield]. In 673, while Tsuneyo-shin was fishing offshore of Otsu-yatsuyanagihama beach, Miwa Myojin descended. Tsuneyo-shin gave him millet rice and saw him off to the pine tree in Karasaki. Based on this legend, offerings called “Awazu no Goku” including millet rice are still given to the sacred palanquins of the seven auxiliary shrines of Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine on the lake at the Hiyoshi Taisha Sanno Festival in April.
