Shingu Shrine

It is located in the forest called Terabe no Mori at the south foot of Mt. Garan where temple buildings belonging to Ishiyamadera Temple are scattered around. Its main deities are Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto.
Prince Otomo who was defeated in the Jinshin War is said to have killed himself near Ishiyamadera Temple. Later, Sanjuhassho Gongensha Shrine was built in the precinct of Ishiyamadera Temple to enshrine the prince and his clan. Shingu Shrine is believed to have shared the sacred spirit from Sanjuhassho Gongensha Shrine. The Ishiyama Festival where a transferal with sacred palanquins of Shingu Shrine going to the original place, Sanjuhassho Gogensha Shrine, grandly takes place every May 5.
