Monument of Revered Old Sekitei’s Climbing

It was built in the approach to Ishiyamadera Temple in March 1800 to cerebrate Kiuchi Sekitei’s 77th birthday. Sekitei was a non-governmental mineralogist who traveled around the country to collect and studied unusually-shaped stones, and is known as a pioneer of Japanese archaeology.
Ishiyamadera Temple has a rare stone called white agate. Saint Mitsukuni from Ishiyamadera Mitsuzo-in Temple was a kindred spirit person to Sekitei, which apparently helped Sekitei go up there to take a look at the stone 100 times.
