Ōtsu City Museum of History

Ōtsu is home to the third largest collection nationwide of Important Cultural Properties designated by the Government of Japan. On this backdrop, the Ōtsu City Museum of History opened its doors in 1990 with the mission of educating the public about Ōtsu city’s extensive history and rich culture. With its main activities being researching, preserving and documenting diverse historical resources and materials, the museum hopes to reach as many people as possible. The museum holds a number of exhibitions throughout the year focusing on both local and national themes, while its permanent exhibition, “The Culture and History of Ōtsu City,” features video and model presentations.
