Reisensanzōhi Monument

Ryosen is from Omi Sakata and is the only Japanese monk who engaged in the translation of Buddhist scriptures in Tang. This can be learned from the end of the first Volume of “Daijo Honsei Shinjikuwangiyau”. In that respect, in order to remember the great accomplishment of Ryosen, in April 1980 Muyuen was build in the Ishiyamadera Temple. It consists of a main monument with a height of 1.9 m and a sub-monument with a brief history. A monk receives the title of “Sanzo” by a monk who is familiar with the Buddhist scripture and, and there is only one monk in Japan who ever received the title of “Sanzo”, and that monk is Ryosen.
