Ono no Tofu Shrine

This shrine is located approximately 400 meters southwards outside of the precinct of Ono shrine. Ono no Tofu is enshrined as the deity of this shrine. The main shrine has a tag with construction information stating the year 1341. It also employed a gable roof which was rare even in Japan, and was designated as an Important Cultural Property. Tofu was a grandson of Ono no Takamura and one of the three famous calligraphers of his time. He is known for an anecdote that he was encouraged by a frog striving to jump on to a willow tree, and Tofu himself strived to improve his calligraphy even more.
