Ono Shrine

Amatarashihiko Kunioshihito no Mikoto and Taganetsuki no O-omi no Mikoto who were ancestors of the Ono Clan are enshrined. This shrine flourished with these deities as the guardian deities of the Ono Clan between the Nara and Heian Periods [between the 8th and 12th centuries]. Taganetsuki no O-omi no Mikoto reportedly pounded sweet rice to make rice cakes for the first time in Japan, and is worshipped as the deity of confectionery.

People who historically played important roles in Japan such as Imoko, Takamura and Tofu were from the Ono Clan.
