Upside-Down Kannon

It is a group of Kannon Bosatsu (Bodhisattvas) carved upside down on a rock face in Kamitanakami-kiryu. When the Dutch Dam was constructed at the lower reaches, stones were mined. During the mining, the back of the carved Kannon Bosatsu was reportedly shaved and fell upside down. These Kannon Bosatsu are revered by local people, as the Bodhisattvas who protect the area from severe flooding even if their body was shaven and became upside down.
