Shiga Museum of Art

It was opened as the Museum of Modern Art, Shiga in 1984. The number of art collections is 1,808 which is relatively small scale for a prefectural art museum; however, the collections of Ogura Yuki, a Japanese-style painter, and of Shimura Fukumi, a dyer, boast of being the greatest in Japan. Besides, the museum is known for the collection of excellent works of artists representing the post-war American art such as Mark Rothko and Robert Rauschenberg, and the museum has started a collection of Outsider Art since 2016. With regard to education, the museum has been conducting workshops since its opening, and advanced activities such as education through appreciation using art games are also carried out.
