Sairenji Temple

Although it is currently a temple belonging to the Jodo Sect, according to the temple’s records, it was originally Ishiyamadera temple remains which used to be called Terabe Sodo. A wooden statue of Amida Nyorai reportedly made in the mid-Edo Period [between the 17th and mid-19th centuries] is enshrined in the main hall. In the grave yard in its precinct, there is a grave of a couple, Tagabana and Zembee, who fell in unattainable love with each other in spite of their status, a prostitute and sales clerk, and threw themselves into a river, exchanging marriage vows in the next life.
