Jodoji Temple

It is located to the east of the Shishitobibashi Bridge in a quiet place surrounded by mountains on three sides. Oishi is the place of origin of the Oishi Clan, famous for Chushingura, and Jodo Temple is the family temple of the Oishi Clan. The principal image, a statue of Amida Buddha is enshrined, and on its sides, a statue of eleven-faced thousand-armed Kannon Bodhisattva which used to be the guardian deity of the Oishi Clan, and mortuary tablets of the forty-seven ronin of Ako stand side by side. There is also the memorial tower to mourn the souls of the deceased ancestors of the Oishi Clan on the hill at the back.
