Hachiman Shrine

The deity enshrined in this shrine is Emperor Ojin. It originates from when the sacred sprit of Mukumoto Myojin from Yamashiro Province [now the southern part of Kyoto] was shared to found this shrine in 948.
A tag with construction information stating “the year 1352” says that originally two separate shrines were enshrined together after the decision of a discussion. It also says that Mukumoto Myojin, Oishi Myojin, and Inari Shrine are enshrined in the middle room, the west room, and the east room, respectively. Lots of valuable shrine treasures such as transom carvings engraved “the year 1354” and the Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra from 1249 have been passed down. Especially, a carving called Binzurusan is an old-style statue of a deity and has considerably weathered; however, it has been worshipped for its miraculous efficacy for rain.
