Zeze Joint Festival

This is a joint festival of five shrines located in Zeze area that used to be a castle town belonging to the Honda Clan, the size of the land was an area equivalent to 60,000 goku of rice production. The shrines include Iwai, Wada, Zeze, Shinozu, Wakamiya and Hachiman. First, a festival at each shrine takes place, followed by a joint parade with all the sacred palanquins, and finally each sacred palanquin proceeds to a parade in each neighborhood.
The festivals used to be held on separate days; however, the festivals have been combined since May 3, 1890. That year, the last feudal lord Honda Yasushige and his wife came back there for the first time in 20 years, and revealed that they would like to see the Zeze festival before returning to Tokyo. The date that the festival was held then was May 3, on the day before their return to Tokyo so that they could see a joint parade of the sacred palanquins. This is why the date of the festival is May 3.
