Dengyo Daishi-e Memorial Service

It is a memorial service that is held on the day of the passing of Dengyo Daishi Saicho, the founder of Japanese Tendai Sect, who passed away on June 4, 822. Nowadays, at Miidera Temple, Saicho’s statue is enshrined in the Toin Kanjodo Hall, and the Hokke Zanmai-ho memorial service is conducted, chanting the Lotus Sutra. In the past the Hokke Hakko [eight lectures on the eight scrolls of the Lotus Sutra], a debate memorial service, used to be held.
