Sennichi-e Memorial Service

This is a memorial service that is held on the day that a one-day visit is worth the merits of the visits of 1,000 days.
On that day, at Ishiyamadera Temple, under the head priest’s service, all monks of the temple attend to pray for the spirits of the war dead of the country and console all their souls in front of the statue of Kannon Bodhisattva. Ten thousand lanterns are also lit to solemnly conduct the memorial service.
The statue of Kannon Bodhisattva of Ishiyamadera Temple has been one of Japan’s three greatest Kannon since ancient times. The vow of Kannon Bodhisattva is to realize comfort both in the present world and afterlife: marriage, easy delivery of babies, happiness and prosperity in the present world; peaceful death and paradise for people in the afterlife.
