Tachiki Kannon (Tachikizan Anyoji Temple)

It is a temple located ahead of 800 stone steps on the mountainside of Mt. Tachiki looking over Shishitobi Valley.
It originates from when Kobo Daishi visited here in 815 and found a sacred tree shining in the mountain. He then carved the image of Kannon Bosatsu (Bodhisattva) on a standing tree and founded a temple. Kobo Daishi was then 42 years old which is yakudoshi, a critical year; therefore, Tachiki Kannon has widely been worshipped for more than 1,200 years as a Kannon Bosatsu (Bodhisattva) who wards off bad luck of yakudoshi. In the main hall, a statue of Shokanzenon Bosatsu carved by Kobo Daishi, as well as statues of Komokuten, Tamonten, Jizo-son, and Kobo Daishi, all of which are believed to have been carved with the remaining wood are enshrined.
