Ebisu Shrine

The deity enshrined in this shrine is Ebisu no Mikoto. It is located in an alley between private houses. A shrine gate and gridded doors are placed at the entrance, and at the end of the path, the main hall with the ikkensha-nagare-zukuri style [which is characterized by the asymmetrical gable roof and two front columns approximately 1.8 meters apart] stands. Its origin is unknown; however, according to the Otsu-shi shi, the Otsu City’s records, it originates from when a statue of deity was enshrined. The statue was made from the wood of a sacred tree which fell down at Sakakinomiyashiro Shrine in Sakamoto. At the Osakaki Shinji Ritual during the Hiyoshi Sanno Festival on April 3, a sacred Shinto tree, sakaki, used for offerings stops by this shrine for a prayer on the way to Tenson Shrine.
