Hikota Inari Shrine

From here towards the lakeside, there was the site where Sawagura, Hikone Domain feudal lord’s residence with warehouse, used to be in the Edo Period [between the 17th and mid-19th centuries]. This shrine was reportedly enshrined in its premises. It was then relocated to the current premises after the Second World War. Hikota Inari Daimyojin is enshrined as the main deity, Hikomaru Inari no Okami is also enshrined as the associated deity. The main hall employs the ikkensha-nagare-zukuri style, [which is characterized by the asymmetrical gable roof and two front columns approximately 1.8 meters apart], and a sloping pent roof with the combination of chidori hafu [triangular dormers attached to the roof] and kara hafu [undulating gable].
