Dainichiji Temple

It is located on the top of Mt. Dainich, and there is currently neither chief priest nor temple guardian. The name of the mountain, Dainichi is derived from Gyoki, a monk in the Nara Period [in the 8th century], regarding the whole mountain as the figure of Dainichi Nyorai, and carving the Dainich Nyorai’s head onto a natural stone at the top of the mountain. However, this Buddha figure carved on a rock face is normally kept hidden from public view.
By the way, a pond called Chichi no Ike located on the southern mountainside of Mt. Dainichi is said to never dry up during summer drought so that it reportedly works for mothers with difficulty in producing breastmilk by visiting Dainichiji Temple and taking its water back home.
