Iwai Shrine

Iwai shrine is said to have been founded around the time of Emperor Tenji. The enshrined deities are the six pillars, such as Emperor Tenji and Emperor Kōbun, and it has also been recorded in “Engishiki” as an old shrine. Also called the Hachidai Ryuō, which is also the name of the god of water. It is said that Iwai Shrine originated from the small shrine that was on a big boulder among the mountains of Goryotanoyama. Through the mountain foot of former Ishigamimachi, it has been moved to the current location during the Kamakura Period.
